We’ll be playing at The Works in Corktown. The main room with feature Ben Klock and DVS1 playing back to back for four hours!

Spring Joint Coil

sub012_300

I’ve got a new release with 6 new original tracks and 4 remixes from JAK (SubSensory), Tim Baker (Elephanthaus), Symplx, and Jay Zoney coming out on Subspec April 10th. You can check it out here.

Thank you, Seattle!

Last weekend I was down in Seattle to play the monthly Space Rock Saturdays event for December at Electric Tea Garden. I played Seattle about a year ago for the From 0-1 showcase at the Cocoon, so I was really looking forward to getting back down and dropping some of my new stuff (Mechanism One Two, The 30th Floor, Spring Joint Coil, as well as remixes for Jay Zoney, Symplx, and DJ M-TRAXXX.

The guys who played before were keeping things in a little more of a funky House vein and the crowd was loving it, so I was a little concerned that I might be too much of a contrast… and my opening track, Easy Play, definitely was… but once the bass line from my remix of Work the Codec hit the crowd was with me for the next hour and a half. They even hung on through VHA (Acid). I had an awesome time, met some great people and got to hear some wicked tunes from the other DJs.

Big thanks to Seattle, ETG, and the Space Rock Saturdays crew for showing me a fantastic time.

Mid-November recap

Bring a Friend Tour with Gary Beck

Last weekend I got to share the stage with a producer I admire, Gary Beck and my friends Jay Zoney and Sleep Walker. It was an amazing night. The crowd came down to Open Studios ready to go from the outside. Miles’ lasers created a fantastic environment, PixelWrangler’s visuals matched the night perfectly and the music was spot on. I was slotted in between Jay and Gary so I knew I’d have to bring it. I played a bunch of newer Subspec stuff as well as some of my Super 6 material. The crowd was with me for the whole hour I played. It was one of the best crowds I’ve ever had the opportunity to play for.

Gary Beck killed it and the night extended to 4am from an original closing time of 3:30.

Subspec is posting the sets from Sleepwalker, Jay Zoney, and myself.

Mine is currently available on Mixcloud as well:

With the success of the night and the great time we had you can be sure Subspec will be doing more events!

Ableton Live/Suite 9 Beta!

I’ve received a beta copy of Ableton Suite 9 and in fact performed my live PA last weekend  using it. I’m making friends with it and I’m not in a hurry to get back to 8 (although for the purpose of safety the beta version doesn’t interact with the 8 library, so I don’t have all of my racks at my fingertips in the beta version).

The updated EQ 8 and Compressor are very, very nice. Having the spectral analysis built in to the EQ is incredibly handy. The new Glue Compressor is also very tasty and I’ve been playing with throwing it on some summing tracks in things I’ve been working on. The changes for in-clip automation and the notes updates are also slick and very welcome. Automation curves has been a long-time absence that has now been addressed. The implementation of in-clip automation is excellent and intuitive as you’d expect with the Live interface.

I’ll be posting some videos in the near future.

Now I’m anxious to get my hands on a Push.

Subspec and recent activity

Subspec is keeping me busy… big time! I’ve been doing a bunch of operations and backline work getting the label going with my label partner Rob Galbraith. Since April we’ve released 6 kick ass EPs and we’ve got 3 more on deck and waiting to drop. You can check out what we’re doing over at the Subspec website.

Subspec has also been active in getting a new night going on the first Friday of each month at the Den at the Barclay on Robson St. in Vancouver. This month we featured John Massey of From 0-1 Records and in Sept. we’ll be bringing out Acid legend Woody McBride. We’re very excited about this and cool stuff is definitely afoot.

In a few days my next EP ‘The 30th Floor’ will be released as an exclusive on Beatport. I’ve received very positive feedback from artists like Brendon Moeller and Danny Tenaglia, so that is very, very cool. You can get more info here.

I’ve also provided remixes for Symplx, John Massey, and Jay Zoney on Subspec. Had a real blast at Movement in Detroit. It feels like things have been going 300 miles an hour lately! Life is moving!
